get end program dialog with the title bar "End Program - Sample". I have to tell it to end now twice to get it to shut down. I can't find any process

I recently came across an odd problem. When windows XP would be shutdown an end program(sample.exe) error window would pop up,,and When i shut down the computer it brings up ending program sample and it won't close down until i have clicked end now, i have searched I found some posts here on end program-sample popup windows on shutdown, and one reply mentioned Intel PROset. I recently came across an odd problem. When windows XP would be shutdown an end program(sample.exe) error window would pop up,,and the shutdown labelled "ending program - sample" as if i have a program still running. i have to click "end now" twice before my computer shuts down. how can i fix this withoutWin XP Home SP3 on a Gateway 4525gx Laptop, w/ 2gb RAM. Every time I close windows, I get this popup that I must click the button "end Search the registry for 'sample.exe'. Delete all of the entries that appear on the right, then end the process sample.exe and delete the file again. Question - When shutting down Windows XP, I get a message End Program-Sample - 8J.
